Bioinformatics World is a quarterly publication
created by CPL, which launched in March 2002 as a supplement to Scientific Computing World and serves the needs
of researchers and scientists seeking to use computing to advance our
understanding of the life sciences. It was acquired by Europa Science Ltd, CPL's science publishing joint venture, in August 2003; CPL continues to provide design and production for the title.
The speed and complexity of the advances being made in the areas
of bioinformatics, drug discovery and biotechnology have made the
use of computerised analysis and manipulation of data absolutely
essential. But, by the same token, the development of computerised
tools and techniques applied to the life sciences is proceeding
with bewildering rapidity. Bioinformatics World helps
answer the key questions facing those working in the chemical,
biochemical, pharmaceutical, genomic and proteomic fields.
The magazine is edited by Dr
Tom Wilkie, one of Britain's best-known science journalists.
Dr Wilkie was for 10 years the science editor of the UK's Independent newspaper,
where he established the newspaper's reputation for taking science
seriously in a way that few quality papers then did. Before the Independent Dr
Wilkie was Features Editor of New Scientist magazine.
He has twice been awarded the Association of British Science
Writers/Glaxo prize for science writing.
Prior to joining Europa Science Ltd, Dr Wilkie was Head of Biomedical Ethics
at the Wellcome Trust, the UK biomedical funding charity which
has financed most of the European human genome sequencing project.
Bioinformatics World has its own award-winning web site
at www.bioinformaticsworld.info.
